Impersonation Scams: Protecting Our Clients

It has come to our attention that a recent deceptive scheme has exploited our company’s reputation. A scammer, masquerading as our CEO, Matthew Stern, has contacted individuals with fraudulent propositions. This distressing incident has prompted us to issue this statement to not only address the occurrence but also to reinforce our unwavering commitment to the security of our clients.

CNC Intelligence operates on a foundation of integrity and transparency. We wish to clarify unequivocally that our outreach is always a direct response to client requests. Under no circumstances would our CEO, or any other member of our team, initiate unsolicited contact or request funds from clients. Our interactions are professional, consensual, and aligned with our stringent privacy and communication policies.

A Warning Regarding CNC Intelligence Impersonation Scams

Background of the Incident

In a concerning turn of events, a woman fell prey to a sophisticated scam operation. She was approached by an individual who went to great lengths to impersonate Matthew Stern, the CEO of CNC Intelligence. This imposter initiated contact under the guise of Stern’s identity, using a UK-based telephone number (+44 7488 843926). They preyed upon the trust that comes with the name of a reputable company and its leadership.

The scammer constructed a convincing narrative, asserting that despite being based in the US, they retained a UK phone number due to past residential ties. With this story, they gained the victim’s trust. The fraudulent individual then exploited this trust by persuading the woman to grant them remote access to her computer, under the pretense of providing assistance. This act led to the unauthorized and malicious transfer of a substantial amount of cryptocurrency from the victim’s holdings, a harrowing experience that culminated in significant financial loss and emotional distress.

The impact on the victim was profound. Financially, she was stripped of a considerable sum, a loss that echoes far beyond monetary value. Emotionally, the betrayal of trust and the invasion of her personal and financial sanctum have left deep scars. This incident highlights the dual nature of such crimes; it is not just the financial loss that victims endure but also the psychological toll it exacts.

CNC Intelligence is deeply troubled by this misuse of our CEO’s identity and the damage inflicted upon an innocent individual. We take this matter with utmost seriousness, and it strengthens our resolve to inform and protect our community against such deceptive and damaging schemes.

I am writing from Madrid, Spain. On 5th December 2023, I got a call from one person pretending to be the CEO of CNC Intelligence. He explained me how the company works, showed me a video and the trustpilot ratings. Then, he connected to my computer through anydesk and explained me that I needed to download atomic to recover my funds that I had lost. I created an account and I send 2k euros but they immediatelly dissapeared. Then, I search on LinkedIn for Mathew Stern, the real CEO, and I wrote to him. He quickly wrote back to tell me that I had been victime of a Scam. He offered his help and a free pro Bono trace. I am very grateful to CNC Intelligence. I hope that no one else will have the same Scam.

Yesterday I received a call from someone calling himself Simov Lev fro CNC Intel who said he had discovered a wallet in my name and could recover the contents. I asked him for an email from a cncintel address which he sent me and I sent this to CNC Intel for verification. I received nothing back. He rang this morning but I was unwilling to talk to him because I had been unable to verify him. I tried to contact CNC again but their online chat would not work so I tried calling them but the number they gave would not work.
Is this a scam PLEASE ANSWER. Derek

      Dear Derek,

Thank you for reaching out with your concerns. The email you forwarded from “Simon Lev” raises several red flags. Firstly, the email address used ([email protected]) does not match CNC Intelligence’s official email domain ([email protected]). Additionally, the request for an Ethereum wallet address is unusual and not in line with our standard practices.

Furthermore, we do not appear to have your phone number on file. CNC Intelligence does not contact individuals who have not requested to be contacted. This discrepancy suggests that the communication you received may not be genuine.

For your safety and to verify the legitimacy of these communications, I strongly recommend contacting CNC Intelligence directly using the official contact details on our website. Please proceed with caution and confirm all details through our verified channels.

      Best regards,
      CNC Intelligence Team
